  • Catavento (2011)

CATAVENTO (Windmill) is a project about the forming skies and clouds dialogue in function of the location, intensity and direction of winds.

The artwork considers the Brasilia's highway axes (North Wing and South Wing of the aeroplane-shaped plan of Brasilia) as a reference of the cardinal points over the Brazilian map, so that it may bring the clouds from different parts of Brazil based on the winds direction, configuring a symbolic dialogue between local and imaginary skies. Resulting of particles generated by algorithms of distant skies pointed by the local wind, the composition of the clouds is exhibited in a real-time projection.

It's the power of nature itself that operates in the flows: the Brasilia's winds direction elects the location whose sky will be generated in the data flow, in the city flow, dialoguing through the color-sky and the moving-wind.

CATAVENTO was presented at EmMeio#3 exhibition at the National Museum of the Republic in Brasilia during the International Meeting of Art and Technology (#10.ART), on August 2011.

Grupo Poéticas Digitais of the Fine Arts Department of ECA-USP in this artwork is composed of Gilbertto Prado, Silvia Laurentiz, Andrei Thomaz, Claudio Bueno, Daniel Ferreira, Luciana Ohira, Lucila Meirelles, Mauricio Taveira, Nardo Germano, Sérgio Bonilha, Tania Fraga, Tatiana Travisani and Val Sampaio.
